In order to build a bookshelf, you will need the following materials:
-4 lengths of wood, at least 2 feet long each
1. Decide how tall you want your bookshelf to be, and cut the lengths of wood accordingly. If you want your bookshelf to be 6 feet tall, for example, you will need to cut 6 lengths of wood, each 2 feet long.
2. Place two length of wood side by side, parallel to one another. Make sure that the ends of the wood are flush with one another.
3. Apply glue to the ends of the wood where they meet, and then nail them together using 3 or 4 nails. Repeat this step for the other two lengths of wood. You should now have two panels that are each 2 feet wide and 6 feet tall.
4. Place the two panels side by side, parallel to one another, and then apply glue to their ends where they meet. Nail them together using 3 or 4 nails.

Step One: Measuring and Cutting the Wood
Building a bookshelf is a great way to add some extra storage to your home. It’s a relatively simple project that anyone can do with just a few tools and some basic woodworking skills. In this article, we’ll show you how to build a bookshelf in just five easy steps.
Before you begin, it’s important to measure the area where you want to put your bookshelf. This will help you determine how much wood you’ll need to cut. Once you have your measurements, head to your local hardware store or lumberyard and purchase the wood for your project.
Once you have your wood, the first step is to cut it to size. You’ll need two pieces for the shelves and two pieces for the sides. If you’re not comfortable using a saw, ask someone at the hardware store to make the cuts for you.
With the wood cut to size, the next step is to assemble the shelves. Start by placing one of the shelves on a flat surface. Then, take one of the side pieces and attach it to the shelf using nails or screws. Repeat this process with the other shelf and side piece.
Now comes the fun part: decorating your new bookshelf! You can paint it, stain it, or leave it natural depending on your personal preference. Once you’ve decided how you want to finish it off, all that’s left is to fill it up with books!
Step Two: Assembling the Frame
Now that you have all of your materials, it’s time to start assembling the frame of your bookshelf. The first step is to attach the two longer side pieces to the two shorter end pieces using wood glue and nails. Make sure that the frame is square by measuring the diagonals. Once the frame is square, set it aside to dry.
Step Three: Adding the Shelves
Now that the supports are in place, you can add the shelves. Measure the distance between the supports and cut your Shelving boards to size. For a basic bookcase, we used 1″ x 10″ boards. If you are using a different thickness of board, be sure to adjust the spacing of the supports accordingly.
Position the first shelf on the supports and screw it in place. Add the remaining shelves, making sure to level each one before screwing it into place. Once all of the shelves are in place, give the bookcase a good sanding. Wipe away any dust with a damp cloth and allow it to dry completely.
Step Four: Finishing Touches
Now that your bookcase is all put together, it’s time to add the finishing touches! You can add more shelves if you’d like, or paint or stain your bookcase to give it a more polished look. If you want to get really creative, you can decoupage pictures or artwork onto the shelves – the sky’s the limit! Let your imagination run wild and enjoy your new bookcase.
Building a bookshelf is a great way to add storage and display space to your home. These easy instructions will help you build a bookshelf in just five steps.
Start by cutting the boards to the desired length. Then, use a drill to create pilot holes in the boards. Next, use screws to attach the boards together. Finally, use sandpaper to smooth the edges of the bookshelf.
